This "simulation," by the way, is a very gamey one. Guiding a city through the first few hours of its life as its all-seeing despotic demigod mayor starts out as delightfully creative and empowering. Prevalent bugs and some awkward design decisions, including a mandatory always-online connection, make the long-awaited return of this most famous of city builders somewhat less than triumphant. Yet while it constantly does some astonishing things with its meticulously detailed simulation, it never works quite as well as I expect it to. What's behind that now-infamous login screen, when you actually play SimCity, is an incredibly complex and stunning game unlike anything I've ever seen. But the terrible server problems that justifiably enraged fans are already fading into just that: history.

The emphasis this time appears to be on multiplayer, judging from the initial info-dump. There’s obviously still going to be a drive to make it as accessible as possible, but EA and Maxis claim the reboot “brings the depth of simulation that has been the series hallmark for more than two decades and marries it with next generation accessibility and a robust multiplayer mode, giving players the power to change a world together.”

Only this isn’t a remake, it’s “a true rebirth of the franchise,” according to publisher EA and developer Maxis’ press release.
No really, just SimCity, like when you remake an old-school movie and crib the name unadorned - simple, straightforward, unambiguous.
